Embodying Ford’s vision for the future F-150 – the best-selling pickup in the US market for more than 35 years – the Atlas Concept combines an evolutionary, bold design with features oriented towards fuel efficiency and practicality.

The exterior design aims at expressing the Built Ford Tough motto through a wide stance, prominent wheel arches, a chiseled grille and a surface treatment made of tight surfaces with industrial design-inspired chamfers and bevels.

LED lighting technology is used on the distinctive double-stack headlamps, on the matching tail lamps, and for the Cargo Box and Side Mirror Lighting systems.

Aerodynamic efficiency is enhanced by a number of active elements.

Among these are the Drop-Down Front Air Dam, a wind spoiler that lowers at highway speeds to improve underbody airflow, the Active Grille Shutters, that automatically close to improve aerodynamics at cruising speeds when there is no need of extra engine cooling, and the auto-deploying power running boards, which help passengers enter the truck at rest and tuck up against the truck when it is moving to improve aerodynamics.

Similar to the Active Grille Shutters, the Active Wheel Shutters are hidden to improve style at rest and low speeds, but automatically close at highway speeds to improve aerodynamics.

Other practical features include the Dynamic Hitch Assist – which helps line up the truck’s hitch with the trailer coupling by showing visual cues in the center display screen, the Dual-Purpose Tailgate Step and Cargo Cradle, the Trailer Backup Assist system and the Hidden Cargo Ramps, consisting of loading ramps stowed below the cargo box that can be quickly removed and set up to assist with loading wheeled items such as bikes into the bed.

The interior design is characterized the same industrial-themed surface treatment of the exterior, and combines satin aluminum with black leather and blue LED lighting – which gives the concept a bold, high-tech look.

Parking maneuvers are made easier thanks to the 360-Degree Point-of-View Camera, that gives a bird’s-eye view of the truck.

The Ford Atlas Concept features a next-generation EcoBoost powertrain with direct injection and turbocharging, and equipped with truck-enhanced Auto Start-Stop engine shutoff technology.

According to Ford, it achieves fuel-economy gains of up to 20 percent and reduction of CO2 emissions of up to 15 percent, compared with larger-displacement engines.
